Viride Quartet creates "Vrij Spel" for Jets Vrijdagshow

Every Friday on NPO Klassiek, Jets Vrijdagshow features the segment *Vrij Spel*. In which presenter Jet Berkhout challenges musicians to breathe new life into a classical piece. Stepping away from the score for a moment and searching for their own personal sound. In March 2026, the Viride Quartet was the guest!

For Vrij Spel, Viride arranged the well-known Jupiter from Gustav Holst's The Planets. In that classic hit, the brass and percussion are particularly dominant. The Viride Quartet enjoys playing the string parts, but during this famous work, they listen to the imposing brass sections with a healthy dose of jealousy. That is why Vrij Spel was the perfect opportunity for them to play that melody themselves. They created a chamber music version of Jupiter and added a John Adams touch to it.
