Salomé Bonnema wins the Oskar Back Prize 2024

We are extremely proud of our first violinist Salomé, who won the Oskar Back Prize 2024. The finals took place on Saturday 27 January, as part of the Dutch Violin Competition 2024.

In the finals (photo: Foppe Schut), she performed solo with the fantastic Residentie Orkest in Felix Mendelssohn's beautiful violin concerto. The jury praised her mature performance of this work: "Balanced, powerful, it was rock solid." "The intensity in her playing cannot leave anyone untouched," said jury chairman Roland Kieft. "She takes the audience on an adventure, from the first note to the last."

 

Leading up to the finals, Salomé recorded an audio journal for the radio programme Podium in which she talks about her preparation for the competition, listen to her diary on the NPO Klassiek website.

 

During the semi-final of the competition, we as a quartet also got to perform the slow movement from Willem Pijper's first string quartet, listen to our full performance in the video below:
